Stora Enso and Valio are introducing reusable bio blended lids this Fall at Valio's sales demonstrations. This cooperation is intended to trial how this new fabric works when combined with a traditional food packet and to encourage Finns to reduce their food waste.

Bio composite products in food packaging are one step Stora Enso is making towards their goal of replacing fossil materials with renewable solutions. Durasense past Stora Enso bio composites, made of woods fiber, can be used to supervene upon over half of fossil-based plastics and, depending on the product, reduce a production's carbon footprint by upwardly to 60% compared to conventional plastic.

"We were the commencement in the world to start using fully establish-based one-liter milk cartons in 2015. Last year, we converted all of our 250 million gable-summit milk, yoghurt, cream and sour milk packages to fully plant-based ones. These packages are a part of a larger concept where Valio is aiming towards carbon-neutral milk, i.e. resetting milk's carbon footprint by 2035. We continue to think virtually new bundle innovation possibilities that we could try out and implement," said Tanja Virtanen-Leppä, caput of Packaging Evolution at Valio.

Stora Enso continues to develop new replacements for plastic from renewable materials. Bio blended products claimed to have similar properties to conventional plastic ones, and these durable and hygienic reusable lids are dishwasher proof. The wood fiber used in this is said to bring the forcefulness of wood and a pleasant experience to the bio blended material.

Bringing motel food home in a cooler

Virtanen-Leppä added, "Roughly six% of the food Finns buy ends up existence thrown away, adding upward to 150 million kilos of nutrient waste matter annually. The packaging – and the lid – is meant to protect the food and aid to reduce waste. In this collectible entrada, nosotros intend to distribute ten,000 reusable lids to Finnish homes.

"With this pilot project, we want to encourage people to take pocket-size physical actions to prevent nutrient waste. For instance, the leftover crème fraiche sauce for fish, made on a cabin weekend, is now easy to pack away in a cooler with this chapeau instead of throwing the leftovers abroad. This new lid can be reused after information technology's been done."
